Life
Early years
- 1883 in Sullivan, Indiana
- Mother died at 6 years old, wrote a poem about it later
- Father died at 13 with complications from the Civil War
High School and College
- Graduated from Sullivan High School in 1902, one of 24 graduates, gave the "class history" at graduation, the high school was 20 years old that year.
- Graduated from Wabash Collage in 1907
- Converted in 1905 at Manton, Michigan at a Friends meeting.

- He had been married previously to Orilla Kibbee. They married in September of 1910, and both (it seems) were Quaker ministers. She died, however in 1916.
